The Cash for Clunkers Program 2009
The Cash for clunkers Program 2009 kicked off 07/27/09 and runs through Nov 1, 2009 or when the allocated funds are depleted, whichever comes first. Cash for Clunkers is the Car Allowance Rebate System newly made available as part of the Barack Obama stimulus package that will offer you credit of $3,500 to $4,500 when you trade in your vehicle for a more fuel efficient new one. The actual credit offered depends on the type of vehicle you purchase and the difference in fuel economy between the purchased vehicle and the trade-in vehicle. The requirements vary for work trucks.
Check this out:
*Your vehicle must be less than 25 years old on the day you trade it in.
In most vehicles, the month and year of manufacture (e.g., 2-97 or February 1997) appear on the safety standard certification label located on the frame or edge of the driver’s door.
*Only purchase or lease of new vehicles qualify. The Program does not apply to the purchase of used vehicles.
Generally, trade-in vehicles must get 18 or less MPG (some very large pick-up trucks and cargo vans have different requirements)
Trade-in vehicles must be registered and insured continuously for the full year preceding the trade-in.
Vouchers are not needed as dealers apply credit at time purchase.
*The Cash for clunkers Program requires the scrapping of your eligible trade-in vehicle, and that the dealer disclose to you an estimate of the scrap value of your trade-in. The scrap value, however minimal, will be in addition to the rebate, and not in place of the rebate.
*Under the program, you may purchase a new vehicle or lease a new vehicle, as long as the lease period for the new vehicle is at least five years.
*There is a limit on the price of the vehicle one can buy or lease under the program: The manufacturer's suggested retail price cannot exceed $45,000.
*All dealers who wish to participate in the program must be registered.
The aim of the program is to boost new car sales in the United States, protect the environments, improve fuel conservation and stimulate the economy.

Pamela Long, Sought in Fla. Killings, Escorted Back to Florida
A woman sought as a "person of interest" in the killing of Florida super parents Byrd and Melanie Billings, is returning to Florida with a police escort for questioning by police today, just hours after police held up her photo in a nationally televised news conference.
We can cancel the lookout order," Escambia County Sheriff David Morgan said in a news conference referring to the search for Pamela Long. "She is not in custody. She is coming back of her own volition." The sheriff said Long is with her lawyer and following another police car to meet with his investigators.
Long was spotted by Alabama police in a marina in the town of Orange Beach and apparently did not know police were searching for her.
Long is a "family friend" and lardlord to Leonard Gonzalez Jr., who police called a "pivotal" player in the July 9 double murder, Morgan said.
Seven suspects are already in custody and Morgan said there were two other persons of interest, including Long, in what he called a "perfect executed" murder. The other person of interest was not identified, but police believe it was his or her job to disable the Billings' elaborate surveillance system, but failed to do so.

Bad weather delays space shuttle launch
By Irene Klotz
CAPE CANAVERAL, Florida (Reuters) - Thunderstorms near the Kennedy Space Center forced NASA to postpone Sunday's launch of the space shuttle Endeavour until Monday on a mission to deliver a Japanese-built porch to the International Space Station.
"We had some colliding sea breezes," launch director Pete Nickolenko radioed to the Endeavour crew. "We're going to have to declare a scrub for today and try to bring the team back for another attempt tomorrow."
The launch was rescheduled for 6:51 p.m. EDT on Monday. Meteorologists said there was a 60 percent chance the weather would not be good enough.
It was the fourth delay of Endeavour's flight. Two launch attempts last month were scuttled by hydrogen fuel leaks and a third try on Saturday ended when NASA ordered checks of the shuttle's electrical systems after lightning struck the mast of the launch pad on Friday.
Heavy clouds moved near the Florida launch site less than an hour before Endeavour's scheduled 7:13 p.m. EDT liftoff, with the seven astronauts strapped into their seats and the ship loaded with 500,000 gallons (1.9 million liters) of fuel to blast it into orbit.
